Amending state law

It's not marriage equality until all our relationships are equal.

In all states and territories except South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory, trans and gender diverse people must be unmarried before they can amend the gender on their birth certificate. This is unfair, forcing trans and gender diverse people to choose between staying married to the person they love or being recognised as their true self.

Together with organisations and allies across the country, we are working to remove these barriers to equality.

Sharing your story is a simple, powerful way you can mobilise support. Are you a trans or gender diverse person, their partner or parent? Help power lobbying efforts by sharing why these changes are important to you.
