Call your MPs and Senators: It's time for a parliamentary vote

How to call your representatives

Calling your representative is easy! A staff member will usually pick up the phone and it will only take a few minutes — just tell them who you are, where you're from and that you want your local MP / the Senator to push for marriage equality. Check out a marriage equality supporter calling their politician:

A guide on what to say

  • Introduce yourself. Tell them who you are and where you're from. It's so important our politicians know this contact comes from a local voter.

  • Tell your own story about why this matters to you. Take the time to respectfully remind your MP that fairness and equality are at the heart of Australian society.

  • Be friendly, polite and urge them to hold a parliamentary vote this year. Poll after poll shows Australia ranks in the top 10 countries in the world in favour of marriage equality. The time is now.

Where our politicians stand

Politicians across the political spectrum have moved from opponents of marriage equality to supporters because of people like you — Australians who value fairness and equality — who shared their story and won over the hearts and minds of their elected representatives. We have a majority, but every supporter we get brings us closer to a vote on the floor of Parliament.
